Hi, Donna,
It has been a long time since we have corresponded. I have a question about Harper research..
..and particularly about William A. Harper, my direct ancestor. Is there anyone besides me re
searching him and his wife. She is listed as Sarah Robertson. I located information about th
e baptism of her youngest son, Robert, which indicates that his middle name is Robinson, no
t Robertson. So, I am wondering if her maiden name was Robinson.....has anyone else questione
d her maiden name? There is an Israel Robinson listed as a resident of Harpersfield....-possi
bly her father? or brother? What do you think? Let's talk!!
Marge Tarbell
Here is the information on the baptism:
Author: St. Michael's Church (Unionville, Lake County, OH
Title: Church Records, 1822-1877
Publication Information: Salt Lake City: Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1993
Format: on 1 microfilm reel; 35 mm.
Notes: Microfilm of original records at the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio
Contents:
Vestry minutes, Baptisms, Marriages, Burials, 1827-1863
This record found under:
1. Ohio, Lake, Unionville - Church records
It is the 3rd item, pp. 8, 9, 10, 11 and reads as follows:
"May 12, 1823. The Rev. Roger Searle baptized Robert Robinson, infant son, and Sally Wilsey
, infant daughter of William A. Harper and Sally his wife, their parents
and Alexander Harper and Electa, his wife, being their sponsors. The Rev. R. Searle also bapti
zed, at the same time Dorcas Cordelia, infant daughter and James, infant son of Alexander Har
per and Electa his wife, their parents and William A. Harper and Sally, his wife being thei
r sponsors."
I think Rev. Searle was "on loan" from a parish in Ashtabula....and only came to Harpersfiel
d two or three times a year....hence, there were a lot of baptisms at one time
Somewhere I have another document that refers to Sarah (Sally) as Robinson, rather than Rober
tson, but I have yet to locate it. It seems as though the two names were sort of interchangea
ble......but that doesn't help me to find her parents!!
I have done a great deal of research on these people and have a mountain of cor-respondence..
..along with news clippings, excerpts from long ago books, etc. etc.
If you would ever like to look through this file and maybe pick up a "nugget" or two, I woul
d be happy to let you borrow it and make copies of whatever interests you.......
Let me know.
Marge
