Marriage of Samuel Johnson and Rachel Bartholomew listed in IGI and
Marriage Record of Ashtabula Co. OH: Both of Harperfield, marriage
solemnized on the 30th Day of November A.D. 1814 by Rev. Johathan
Leskie, Pastor of the Prebyterian Church in Harpersfield. Recorded
Feburary 27th A.D. 1816 by J. R. Hawley, Clerk C.P.
Marriage of Calesta Johnson from IGI.
Probate Records, Clark Co, Marshall, IL (viewed May 1993, copies in
file) Mary P. Cole (Danner), Adminstrix of estate, swore that Samuel
Johnson died intestate on or about the 1st of MAY 1855; it is further
noted that Samuel died single (left no widow), but the following named
children as his heirs at law: Calista (Sylvester) Bartholomew, Deborah
(Christian) Jeffers, Joshua P. Johnson, Timothy C. Johnson, Salmon G.
Johnson, Asenath Johnson and Rosetta Johnson (the last two minors and
under age).
1860 census:IL checked for Timothy and Solomon Johnson:
(NO Timothy age about 34 and born in Ohio - Timothy Johnson (34-NJ?)
was in Lasalle Co with an Irish family as laborer). See file.
(NO Solomon or S.G. Johnson age about 30 and born in Ohio - Solmon
Johnson (30-NY with Phillip Johnson (59-NY) and family in Dane Co, WI).
See File. [Dane county is adjacent to Winnebago Co, IL.]
1850 Census: IL
Samuel and Rachel not located in 1850; check Clark Co., IL
Asenith and Rosetta Johnson are with Calesta and Sylvester
Bartholomew in Winnebago Co, IL.
Timothy Johnson (24-laborer-OH) is listed on p. 49, with J.A. Carpenter
(23-Merchant-MA) and others including Mary Call [could this be Mary
Cole?] in Dundee, Kane Co, IL. [This is only Timothy Johnson born in Ohio
listed in 1850 index].
Salmon Johnson (20-Unknown) is listed on p. 398 with Geo. P. (26-NY)
and Jane (24-NY) Ingraham and son in Roscoe, Winnebago Co, IL. [Could
this be the right Salmon? - he would be of age in 1855 as per Samuel's
will; the younger sibs were not with their parents in 1850!]
1840 Census: Illinois, Clark Co. (daughter, Deborah married 1838 in
Clark Co.) lists Samuel Johnson with 10 members - Males: 5-10,10-15,
15-20, 20-30, and 50-60; and Females: Under 5, 5-10, two 10-15 and
40-50. Presuming this is the correct family there are obviously children
missing. Based on calculations from 1820-1840 census data, there
should be 10 children; 4 sons (including Joshua, Timothy and Salomon
from will) and 6 dau.s (including Calista, Deborah, Rosetta and Asenath
from will [and Mary from Bessie Minaker] + 1; a Lucretia Johnson married
Alexander Croakley 6 JAN 1835 in Ashtabula Co, OH). [Unless these other
children are relatives with the family.]
1830 census:Ohio, Ashtabula Co., Geneva - p. 165 - lists S. Johnson, Jr.
with males: under 5, 5-10, 10-15, and 40-50; and females: two under 5,
two 10-15 and 30-40. (this fits).

Jr. with males: 0-10 and 26-45 and females: two 0-10 and 16-26. (This
fits)
