DIED
On the 24th day of August last, at his residence in Unionville, Hon. AARON WHEELER, aged 77 y
ears.
Judge Wheeler was one of the early settlers upon the Western Reserve. He moved his family in
to the township of Harpersfield, Ashtabula County, in October 1799. Began in the then new co
untry as all pioneers are obliged to, and was exposed to the trials and vicissitudes inciden
t to a frontier life. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace under the Territorial Governme
nt; subsequently was elected an associate judge for the county of Trumbull, when that count
y included the whole Western Reserve - their being only three counties in the state at that t
ime, Trumbull, Ross and Hamilton. In the year 1809, he was elected a member of the Ohio Stat
e Senate, which office he filled with great ability. In 1811, he was again elected an Associ
ate Judge, at that time for Ashtabula County, which office he retained for fourteen years. A
fter his retirement from the Bench, he engaged in Agriculture, and lived a dignified and exem
plary life. He left a large circle of relatives and friends.
