Ashtabula Sentinel, Wed. Jan 21, 1863
"Died at Unionville, on the 12th inst., Dr. M. P. Sherwood, in the 57th year of his age. Dr
. S. had been afflicted for some two years with a disease of the heart, but was still abl
e a part of the time to attend to a share of his professional calls, and had during the winte
r and up to the moment of his death, been apparently improving in health. He retired to be
d on his return from a professional visit, with more than his usual feelings of comfort, an
d about midnight suddenly started up, saying, "I am dying!" and fell back dead, ere his so
n could reach his room. Thus has passed away one of our most faithful and skillful physician
s, after the toils of thirty-six years practice in our community, leaving a large circle o
f friends in sadness to mourn his unexpected departure from our midst." (Also printed in th
