INDEX
Notes
Abel may be an OLDER son (mentioned second in the will, but only left
$1.00; however, he received $6.00 in the settlement on June 18, 1836.)
He also signed a note on April 1, 1834, for $100.00 so he must have been
within 'borrowing' distance. [This was AFTER the will was written.]
Was this when he left Ohio and went West? Was he in Ohio before he left
or did he stay in New York?
1855 census:IL, Clark Co. lists Abel Johnson with a male 20-30 and
females under 10 and 20-30 [this is too young to be this Abel Johnson].
1850 census: IL, Boone Co, Belvidere lists Abel W. Johnson
(63-NY-Carpenter) with Philomeda (42-Mass.) and Arbarilla (13-NY),
Gulilma (10-MO) and William W. (8-MO). [Abel Johnson is listed in 1840
MO index].
1860 census: IL, Boone Co, Belvidere lists same (as 1850) A.W.
Johnson (72-NY-Carpenter) with P.H. (f-50-Mass), Belle (22-NY) and
William W. (18-MO). [Is this the correct Abel Johnson, born about
1887/88? Boone Co. is adjacent to Winnebago County with Samuel's
children were in 1850.]
There are a couple of Abel Johnson listed in the 1820 and 1830 census
INDEX for New York. Until his age is determined there is not much more
research that can be done on this Abel Johnson.
