Notes
Ohio IGI lists marriage of Peter Johnson and Phebe Brown on 2 OCT
1826/28 at Jefferson, Ashtabula Co, OH.
1850 & 60 census:OH, Ashtabula Co, Monroe twp, lists Peter and Phebe
Johnson with two children, but Peter's birthplace is listed as Germany.
Thus do not consider this the correct Peter Johnson.
1830 & 40 census:OH, Ashtabula Co, Peter Johnson also listed in both
censuses, but the ages of the children in 1840 and 1830 do not fit the
marriage date of this couple. Therefore I have not added the marriages
and children of the children. (see Johnson file).
Peter may be an OLDER son (mentioned first in the will) that owed his
father money (he was left only the forgiven $12.90 on the note - which
was originally $215.00 on July 30, 1825). Thus, Peter should have been
within 'borrowing' distance in 1825. Peter was not mentioned in the
settlement of the will in 1840. Had he died before then? His brother
Abel (who was left only $1.00 in the will) received $6.00 in the
settlement of June 18, 1836 (did he get Peter's share?)
Peter Johnson is such a common name - until there is an indication of
his age it is impossible to determine if any of the Peter Johnsons in New
York, Ohio, Illinois, etc. are the correct Peter.
