Notes

Born in Sullivanville, NY., 1881. Moved to Illinois with family at the age of 2. 1883. Graduated East Aurora High School 1899. Graduated Northern Illinois Teacher College, DeKalb, IL, in 1902. Taught rural schools (Kendall County, IL) until 1902, she then taught at Morgan Park school s until she married in 1906. Her pupils presented her with a teaspoon as a parting / weddin g gift, engraved 'Mae' on the handle. Raised three children on the Lett farm just south of Sandwich, Illinois, until 1923 when th e family moved into Aurora. Upon the death of Ward, her husband, in 1923, she began to teac h again. She retired from teaching in 1947, having taught in the Aurora schools for that ent ire time of 25 years.
