Without question Cora Harper was the spiritual leader in our family. Whenever
any of us had questions in faith (even the most trying ones) we knew we could
depend on Cora to give us answers & guidance. She maintained a quiet strength
and dignity throughout her life & until the end. She would never interfere
in extended family business unless she clearly new a few directional words
were needed to steer us back on a more direct course.
Her parents lived in a sod house in Kansas. They moved to Nebraska and Cora
was born in 1889. She was raised in the Quaker faith. Cora attended Earlham
College
and went on to become a teacher in a one room school house. She met & married
Vernon Potter. She has two daughters Elenor & Marjorie. Vernon died at the
age of 52. Later she married Leslie Harper & they became members of this
church (Westminster Presbyterian Church, Akron, Ohio). She was the first woman
elder of Westminster, and served in many positions including Missions of which
she was especially fond. She was an active member of the womans assoc., led bible
study classes here and @ Rockynol (Presbyterian Retirement Home), was a member
of P. E. O. Sisterhood, fortnightly, & 60 Plus Club. She & Leslie served
on the research & founding committee of Rockynol. In 1970 they made Rockynol
their home. She continued to be active there.
Bulk of history came from recording made in 1980 @ age 92. (Made by Katheryn
Sherer Harper and transcribed in 1986).
