INDEX
Notes
In "History of the Wheeler Family in America", published in 1914,
(G929.2, Wheeler = Valpo Library Call no.) Vol. II, p. 596 lists Samuel
Wheeler, son of Aaron Wheeler, married Lucretia Johnson - and lists her
birth and death dates and lists children. (see file). Ages of children fit
marriage date listed previously.
Aaron Wheeler, son of Samuel Wheeler, married Margaret Harper, dua. of
Alexander Harper (NOTE: this is same Alexander Harper who married
Betsey Bartholomew!)
IGI Ohio lists Birth dates and/or marriage dates for children of
Lucretia and Samuel.
Note: Lake county, Ohio was formed in 1840 from part of Geauga
County. Madison township of Lake Co was formerly in Geauga county;
today it is in Lake Co, OHIO, but adjacent to Harpersfield twp of
Ashtabula county.
1820 Census:Ohio, Geauga Co, Madison twp. lists Samuel Wheeler with
Males: 18-26 and 26-45, and females: two Under 10 and one - 16-26. [This is
an unknown male and Samuel with Amy and Mary and wife, Lucretia.]
1830 census: Ohio, Geauga Co, Madison twp. lists Samuel Wheeler with
males: less than 5, two 20-30 and 30-40 and females: three 5-10, 10-15
and 30-40. [This is Edwin, (two unknown males - brothers or hired
hands?), Samuel, and the four daughters and Lucretia.]
1840 census: Neither Samuel nor Lucretia will be found in 1840 if the
death dates from the Wheeler history are correct.
Note some of the children went to Wisconsin (that part of Wisconsin
adjacent to Winnebago Co, IL. This geographical area needs to be
researched more for Johnson/Jeffers families.
County History (Ashatabula Co, OH?) notes that Samuel Wheeler was a
lawyer and he was in the Ohio legislature.
Her Father (Samuel Johnson) left half his property to Lucretia Wheeler
(16 Apr. 1833). If the dates from the Wheeler history are correct,
Lucretia was widowed by then and had five minor children to support.
1850 Census: Harpersfield Twp, Ashtabula co, OH, 25 JUL lists Samuel
Wheeler (69-Conn) and SUSAN Wheeler (61-VT) with Joseph E. (29-VT)
and Fanny (30-NY) FAY with Samuel E. (6-OH), Thomas J. (4-OH) and
Romanzo (1-OH) with Susan Webb (17-IL). Is this Samuel Wheeler with
second wife??? [NO, see below]
