INDEX
Notes
John Hendry was taken prisoner at Harpersfield on April 8, 1780 when his two
older brothers (Thomas and James) were killed. He died later in prison in
Quebec. He was apparently a carpenter. He left a son and infant daughter.
The daughter died in the Schoharie forts during the war. John's wife was Jane
Mills. After the war, she married a John McPherson, a Scot, officer of the British
Army that stayed in America after the war.
John left Jane three lots in Harpersfield. One was given to their son, Thomas, one
was sold to provide funds for her wedding dress when she remarried. She and
John McPheerson lived on and farmed the third.
Some of the sons of this Thomas Hendry dropped the "d" from the name Hendry.
One branch of this family migrated it Louisiana after the Civil War.
