These pages are the complete transcription of the trial of General Van Rennsselaer. He ws charged by Col. John Harper with 'Want of Energy' in the Mohawk Valley Campaign of 1780. John sincerely believed that the General he reported to had not pressed hard enough and as a consequence he allowed the enemy time to both carry out the destruction of the Valley and also escape without a fight. Circumstances during the previous summer and his personal military drive both played a part in Col. John Harper's charges.
