had drove off some Cattle from the western
14th Frontiers of this State and threatened the

(Inhabitants)

should be afraid as he said he would be peace=
=able as yet. _ After Brant had arrived with
his men Remarcked to McGinnis a noted
Tory, and after Arrival there sent for Mr.. John=
ston the Minister and Capt Johnston his son
to him he asked the old Gentleman several
Questions concerning using his Friends ill
as they were a free People, to which Mr. ~
Johnston answered that his Friends had been
used with all the civility of a free Peoples. ~
Brant replied, that he and party was for
the King and did not think and did not think
proper to fall out for every Triffle, but as he
had a large party he wanted provision for them
and if the People would let him have it he ~
would pay them for it, but at the same time ~
gave them to understand that he would have
it any Rate and after getting cattle sheep and
swine and other provisions told them that
Butler would be soon along and pay them for
what he had taken from them. that he then
appeared in a war like manor and intended
to bring all his people in spite of any Oppa
=sition, and further said that there would be
