French View of North America |
|
Map Description: Map of Northeast coast of North America showing parts of New France south to the top of Florida. This map was published in Paris in 1755. Source: John Carter Brown Library This is an enlargement of the section of New York and New England of the map depicting all the Northeast coast of North America. Note this was the view the French had of North America. At the time, the French were out numbered by the English 10 to 1. Their depiction on this map of the Provience of New York was reasonably accurate. The dividing line between New York and Pennsylvania had not yet been established. Their view of the western boundary's of the English Colonies reflected less the claims of the English but more the real world of even remote settlement of English in the land of the Iroquois. |
